A's top prospect Shea Langeliers named MVP of 2022 All-Star Futures Game

Oakland Athletic's top prospect Shea Langeliers was named MVP of the 2022 All-Star Futures Game Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

Langeliers finished 1-for-2 on the night, helping lead the AL to a victory over the NL, 6-4

While the A's future backstop had only one hit, it was a big one. Langeliers smashed a solo home run off of Atlanta Braves prospect Jared Shuster, giving the AL a 6-3 lead in the fourth inning.

Langeliers, a 24-year-old right-handed catcher, was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2019. He was acquired by the A's as part of the Matt Olson trade in March, which sent Langeliers, Cristian Pache, Ryan Cusick, and Joey Estes to Oakland.

In 74 games for Triple-A Las Vegas this season, Langeliers is batting .272/.365/.505 with 16 home runs and 44 RBI.

Rated as the A's No. 1 prospect and the No. 31 prospect overall by MLB Pipeline, Langeliers could receive a call-up to the majors as soon as this season.

In June, A's assistant general manager Billy Owens spoke highly of Langeliers. Owens told MLB.com's Martin Gallegos that Langeliers had a cannon arm with "sniper accuracy" and would "provide competitive at-bats and power."
