It was a news-filled and game-filled Wednesday, and we just wanted to spotlight another piece of news: the American Hockey League unveiled their All-Rookie Team on Wednesday, and Calgary Wranglers defenceman Jeremie Poirier as named as part of that group.

A third-round selection by the Flames in the 2020 NHL Draft, Poirier was considered a high-upside pick in that year’s crop due to his sky-high offensive upside. Since being selected, he was a big piece of a Memorial Cup-winning Saint John Sea Dogs club.

Going pro this past season, his defensive game has been a work in progress? His offensive game? Excellent. Heading into Wednesday night’s action, he had nine goals and 41 points in 65 games. 18 of his 41 points were registered on the power play.

If Poirier can keep working on his details away from the puck, and keep building on his already impressive offensive output, he could work himself into some NHL games before too long.

Poirier’s AHL teammates Dustin Wolf and Jakob Pelletier were named to the All-Rookie Team in 2021-22.
