Nathan MacKinnon is close to joining exclusive club with point streak at home
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon is having a terrific season and is on the verge of joining an exclusive club with his current point streak at home. Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss MacKinnon’s ongoing point streak and dominance in the NHL.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Nathan MacKinnon is on track for a pretty cool milestone, we talked about Connor McDavid being on pace for 100 assists this season, but MacKinnon is on track to becoming just the second player to get a point in every home game. This one may not be so much of a lock as McDavid, he has seven more home games where he has to register a point but what makes this record so impressive is you can’t have an off night, this is like a perfect game in baseball.

Frank Seravalli: I think this is one of the most incredible records in the sport. Of the 58 that Wayne Gretzky still holds, the fact that in 1988-89 he played 40 home games and had a point in every one of them is insane. He of course has the ability to get to 41 games, and you can only score in as many home games as you have. When I look at this Avs’ team that is an absolute wagon on home ice and again you saw it when they played the Pittsburgh Penguins, it’s frustrating for the Penguins who probably played some of their best hockey all season long in that first half of the game, followed by getting absolutely mauled by the Avs in the last 20 and they come back from 4-0 and win it.

Frank Seravalli: But you look at MacKinnon and down 4-0 is this potentially where the streak ends? They are 28-6 at Ball Arena this year, the Canucks aren’t bad on home ice either at 24-7-4 but if you’re talking pure home ice advantage at altitude I don’t think there’s a better one than the Avs. They look and feel like a different team on home ice, I think MacKinnon gets there but not as big of a lock as McDavid.
